Week of February 20th

February is Dental Health month so we focused on our teeth this week.  The students really learned many cool and important facts about our teeth.  They now know that you should brush your teeth 2 times each day and visit the dentist twice year.  We have 20 baby teeth and 32 adult teeth.  They learned what plaque is and what we need to do to keep it away!

On Tuesday we made these adorable and very large Tooth Fairies!  They worked so hard on these and they are displayed in the main hallway for everyone to see!

Later in the week we used toothbrushes to “paint” a tooth white.  They loved this activity.  The next day they wrote a sentence about his/her tooth.  We also made a Tooth Fact Foldable but I forgot to take pictures.

Mrs. Abraham dropped in one day to show us her extra large set of teeth and toothbrush.  She showed us exactly how we should brush our teeth!

Friday was also “Career/College Day” at Sherman Avenue.  The Kindergarten students dressed up as what they wanted to be when they grow up and the rest of the school including teachers dressed up in their favorite college jersey.  We had a parade outside around the circle and everyone shouted, “Let’s go Sherman, let’s go!”  It was super fun!!

Here we have a stay at home mom, a lawyer and a detective.

Math Stations

We have implemented Math Stations over the last month.  The students are enjoying practicing previously taught skills as they rotate through these stations each day.  Here are a few pictures of the students working hard!

Will and Astha work in Station 9.  They take turns rolling the large dice, count the dots, and tally mark the number.   The person who gets to 100 first is the winner!

Here are 2 girls playing a dice/number game while another student is getting Station 1 ready to play Addition Dominoes.

The students enjoy the Math Insta Learn Boards and writing Math story problems using dominoes at the Writing Station.

We also have a puzzle/game station.  Below you will see students building a number from a number card and comparing his/her towers.  Which one is longer?  Which one is shorter?

Roll the dice and cover the correct number.  Who will cover their board first?

We also have a Math Write the Room Station.  I think this is their favorite station because they get to wander around the room while they are working.  I am so glad the students get excited about Math!  They are having fun but learning and practicing skills at the same time!  Mrs. Smith and I can pull small groups during this time also or walk around and help struggling students.

George & Abe

Since President’s Day is Monday we did a mini unit on George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  The students really got excited to learn facts about these 2 past Presidents.  We used our projector to find pictures of the White House on the internet.  We also looked up The Lincoln Memorial and The Washington Monument.

After reading a few books about these 2 men, we listed facts that we learned.  The students then made an Abe and a George and wrote 1 fact about each.  We displayed these in the hallways!
