We had a VERY busy week! We studied the letter Mm and and colors. We read the book Mouse Paint and had a lesson on mixing primary colors to make new colors.
The students helped me mix paint to make new colors. They thought that this was really cool!
After we experimented with paint we made a tasty treat. We put blue, red and yellow food coloring in each of a tub of cool whip. We stirred and stirred until the cool whip changed colors.
Then each student got a little scoop of each color. We mixed the red & blue to make purple, yellow & blue to make green and red & yellow to make orange. The students then dipped cookies in the cool whip and enjoyed the treat!
We also continued to sort objects by shape, size and color. We had been reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? and we sorted and graphed M&M’s. The students did a great job of sorting the M&M’s by their color and then coloring their bar graph. We discussed which color they had the most/least of.
We also studied the Letter S this week so we read the book Silly Sally. The students really enjoyed this book and they helped retell the story using the retelling pieces and apron. This activity will be in one of our Literacy Stations so that students can retell the story.
A few students remembered to wear Silly Socks on Friday!! (Mrs. Smith and I forgot! OOPs!)
To end the week we read the story If You Give a Moose a Muffin and made mini muffins.
Coming up this week:
We will study the letter R and learn the sight word “my”. We will focus on recognizing and writing numbers 0-5 and our thematic unit is “Glad to Be Me”. Students have “homework fun” this week. They will complete an All About Me poster. They may also bring in an “R” show and tell on Friday.
Hugs,
Mrs. J.
